A very long memory.

England took the Cup 11–9. Close enough for Sweden to remember several turning points; clear enough for England to remember only the score.

What is Magersfontein?

The annual argument with evidence.

It began in 2010 as England against Sweden and became something harder to describe: a travelling golf match, a collection of rivalries, a catalogue of implausible recoveries and an archive in which nobody is permitted to improve with age.

The Cup has moved through Wales, Scotland, Ireland, England and Sweden. Partnerships have become reputations. Singles matches have become scars. Captains have discovered that a perfect plan survives comfortably until the first tee.

And every year the trophy starts clean. The history does not.

The balance of power

England 7 · Sweden 4 · Drawn 3

The Cup has been decided outright eleven times and retained after three draws. Home soil has usually mattered. Usually.
